Shell & Frame Support

The strength of any structure is in its foundation. The foundation of a spa most certainly is in the frame and shell. The frame must provide overall support and also keep the shell from shifting at any time. The shell must provide a smooth yet durable supporting skin for the occupants and consistent watertight retention for the spa water. Both the frame and the shell share the imperative roll of providing consistent support and protecting value to the spa owner.
The average weight of an empty spa weighs approx. 500 lbs. Add the average weight of five spa occupants. Combine this with the weight of 400 gallons and an average gross weight of an operating spa totals out at approximately 5000 lbs! The question to ask is…How does a spa weighing 500 lbs. empty operate in the long term to protect your investment with 5000 lbs. of water and people in it? The answer is…not very well!
Spa frames are typically made of three different standards, Wood, Steel, or Aluminum. Most spa frames are pinewood constructed. As the frame and shell standard improves industry wide, the quality of the spa and ultimately its cost increases.
Pinewood frames will rot. Steel frames will rust and possibly produce electrical conduction issues. Aluminum is the best alternative, however very costly. Pressure Treated Hardwood Frames have shown to be the most dependable and cost effective frame material.
